DESCRIPTION:  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupporting Muslim clients impacted by Racism and Islamophobia using cultural intelligence (CQ) \n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nWhy do we need to attend to our client’s culture and our own cultural background in community services?\nWhat tools can we use to hear client’s stories in the context of their cultural background and lived experience?\nWhat is the psycho-social impact of racism and Islamophobia?\nHow do we support the development of cultural intelligence within our organisation?\nYou are cordially invited to join us for a highly interactive and thought-provoking workshop to discuss strategies to better understand Muslim clients when they require case management and advocacy after incidents of Racism and Islamophobia.\n\nThis workshop has been designed for community service providers. This may include professionals working in community health\, case management\, community engagement\, settlement services\, neighbourhood and housing services\, and community centres.\n\nCQ WORKSHOP OVERVIEW\n1. Showing up with Cultural Intelligence (CQ)\n• What is cultural intelligence\, The CQ Model and why do we need it?\n• Applying The CQ model to your work.\n• Enhancing your cultural lenses with Hofstede’s country comparison tool\n• Neuroscience of doing difference\n• Curious about culture? Asking questions about faith and culture\n2. Case management and community services with Muslims and Muslim Communities\n• Understanding the diversity within the Muslim community\n• Inclusive conversations: Which Muslim or Muslim organisation gets a seat at the table?\n• Harnessing strengths and building connections within the existing community infrastructure\n3. Reducing the impact of Racism and Islamophobia\n• To report or not to report? The psycho-social impact of racism and Islamophobia.\n• The impact of vicarious trauma\n• Supporting and referring Muslims who have experienced racism and Islamophobia\n• Responding effectively to individuals after isolated events\n• Responding effectively to large sections of the community after major incidents\, E.g. Christchurch terror attack.\n  \n\n\n\n\nThis workshop will be delivered by Monique Toohey of Nasihah Consulting Group\, in partnership with the ICV Islamophobia Support Service.\n\nMONIQUE TOOHEY\nEstablished in 2005\, Nasihah Consulting Group is a leading provider of culturally intelligent psychological services and professional development in cultural intelligence. Nasihah\, by the way\, is an Arabic\, Turkish\, Indonesian and Malay word meaning ‘To give sincere advice’. Monique is a French / Latin name meaning counsellor/advisor. Some things were just destined to be. She has delivered psychological services and personal development programs to culturally\, religiously\, and linguistically diverse clients and organisations working within multicultural contexts for the past 25 years.\n\nMonique is a Registered Psychologist and certified Cultural Intelligence (CQ) Advisor (USA) and has trained staff from over 360 organisations in cultural competence. For 6 years she was the Lead Lecturer of Multicultural Counselling and Culture and Psychology at the Australian Catholic University and is a regular guest lecturer at universities both nationally and internationally. She has also delivered organisational training programs in Turkey\, Indonesia\, and Malaysia.\nIn 2021 she featured in the Amazon Prime Video docuseries titled UNHEARD\, which investigated racism in Australia and in 2019 delivered ‘Culture eats individuality for breakfast’ at TEDx Docklands. She is often invited by ABC news to provide psychological insights on a range of topics from mental health to multiculturalism. She has been featured on LateLine\, The Australian\, The Age\, The Herald-Sun\, ABC and 3AW radio. She was a speaker at the 2016 Melbourne Writer’s Festival and is the Author of multiple publications.\nLearn more HERE.\n\nICV ISLAMOPHOBIA SUPPORT\nIslamophobia Support is a community service delivered by the Islamic Council of Victoria. Our service is free\, confidential and available to the wider Victorian community.\nIslamophobia Support aims to help people understand and navigate their service options.We offer information\, advice\, referrals and culturally responsive case management.
